At Peaceful Haven Homes, we believe every renovation should tell a story of thoughtful care and smart choices. As a licensed general contractor serving Chattanooga and the surrounding areas, we recently completed a full-home renovation that turned a dated, mismatched interior into a cohesive, move-in-ready haven. While the entire project included updates to kitchens, baths, lighting, and paint, the real standout was the flooring transformation. What started as a sea of cheap, inconsistent LVP revealed hidden potential—and taught us (and our client) the value of choosing uniformity and quality over patchwork perfection.
Inconsistent Floors
The home came to us with the classic “rental special” look: inexpensive luxury vinyl plank (LVP) installed throughout most of the main level, but in a patchwork of different styles, colors, and wear patterns. Some areas had been replaced over the years, others patched in haste. Upstairs, the bedrooms featured original hardwood that still had character but had clearly seen decades of daily life—scratches, dull finishes, and the kind of fading that comes from time and foot traffic.
Before we could even plan the new design, we knew one thing for certain: we had to see what was underneath all that LVP. You never truly know until you pull it up.

A Glimpse of Oak Treasure
As our crew carefully removed the old LVP, excitement rippled through the job site. In the main living area, beautiful oak hardwood emerged—rich grain, solid construction, the kind of timeless material homeowners dream of finding during a reno. For a moment, we pictured keeping it exposed and building the rest of the design around that natural warmth.
Then reality set in. The oak was limited to just that one section. The rest of the main level had been built over different subfloors or previous coverings with no matching hardwood. We were faced with a classic renovation crossroads:
- Option A: Keep the oak visible in its limited area and install new flooring everywhere else, resulting in a visible “seam” between materials, colors, and heights.
- Option B: Create a clean, uniform look across the entire bottom floor for better flow, resale appeal, and everyday livability.

Uniformity Wins for Timeless Appeal
After walking the space with the homeowners and discussing both short-term wow factor and long-term value, we chose Option B. We installed a high-quality 20 mil wear-layer LVP throughout the entire main level. This premium product delivers the realistic wood look and feel our clients wanted while offering superior durability, easy maintenance, and a perfectly level transition from room to room.
The result? A seamless, modern foundation that makes the open-concept living areas feel larger, brighter, and far more polished. No more visual breaks. No more wondering “what color will the floor be when I walk into the next room?” Just beautiful, consistent style that works for a growing family or future buyers.

Bringing Original Hardwood Back to Life
Upstairs, we took a different (and very satisfying) approach. The bedrooms already had solid hardwood in great structural condition—just tired and worn on the surface. Our team sanded every square foot down to bare wood, removing years of scuffs and discoloration. Then we applied fresh stain and multiple coats of durable polyurethane, bringing the floors back to a like-new shine.
The transformation was dramatic. What once looked dated and “lived-in” now feels warm, inviting, and intentionally classic. The refinished hardwood instantly elevates the bedrooms into peaceful retreats—exactly the kind of quality buyers notice when they step inside during a showing.

The Outcome: New Face, Lasting Value
This flooring-focused renovation didn’t just refresh the home—it completely changed its personality. The main level now flows effortlessly with durable, beautiful LVP that will stand up to pets, kids, and Chattanooga’s four seasons. Upstairs, the revived oak hardwood adds authentic character and warmth that new construction simply can’t replicate.
Most importantly, these choices deliver real resale value. Uniform, high-quality flooring is one of the top features appraisers and buyers look for. By avoiding a mismatched “quilt” of materials and instead delivering a cohesive, move-in-ready finish, we helped our client create a home that feels intentionally designed from the ground up.
At Peaceful Haven Homes, we don’t just install floors—we solve problems and maximize value. Whether it’s uncovering hidden hardwood, making the tough call for uniformity, or breathing new life into original materials, our team approaches every project with the same goal: create peaceful havens that our clients love coming home to.
